When you’re in elementary school you anticipate middle school. When you get to middle school you anticipate high school. High school comes and you dream about college. College arrives and you dream of getting married. You get married and you can’t wait to have children. You have children…you can’t wait until you’re babies are out of diapers, out of the toddler stage…
What do we do when our minds can’t seem to find a place of peace and happiness with the here and now? When our minds seem to want to always be racing forwards or backwards?
Here’s a secret to a mind at peace and rest: Delighting in what the Lord offers you, instead of what the world offers you, one day at a time. Waking up each day with child-like eyes, wondering what the Lord is going to show you that day. Maybe it’s a beautiful field of flowers you get to walk through, or a sweet unexpected hug from your child. Maybe it’s a shared laugh with your husband. Maybe it’s a new realization or perspective in your mind. Maybe it’s stumbling on a scripture or blog post that has to do with exactly what you’re going through.
Each day is a fresh slate for God to fill up with something new to give you. More faith, more strength, more patience, more love. A new friendship, a good conversation with your kids, a piece of chocolate at the end of the day. :)
Every little or big thing in your day can be marvelous. Satan wants you to see it all as mundane. It’s all in your mind, all in your thoughts, all in your head. You get to be the one to decide how you will see the gifts God has given to you.
A mother named April who lost her two boys in the recent tornadoes has chosen in her mind to still see the goodness in life and in God. Her story is an example of how to have faith and hope in the midst of the deepest sorrow. Read her story here: http://thehodgepodgedarling.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-cheerleader.html?m=1
God has prepared this day with purpose. Open your eyes to the beauty of it all.
